White Matter Matters: Unraveling Violence in Psychosis and Psychopathy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Individuals with psychosis have an increased risk of committing acts violence. Providing neurobiological evidence for the extent to which violence in is driven by psychotic symptoms and/or antisocial traits could important clinical and legal implications. White matter (WM) abnormalities been reported individuals those traits. However, it not clear if WM violent (violent PSY) resemble previously found non-violent (non-violent PSY), non-psychotic non-PSY), or both.

White Matter Matters
to see what makes one brain smarter than another. Or to discover whether hidden traits might be driving a person’s schizophrenia or dyslexia. A new kind of imaging technique is helping scientists observe such evidence, and it is revealing a surprise: intelligence, and a variety of mental syndromes, may be influenced by tracts within the brain made exclusively of white matter. Gray matter, the s...
متن کاملWhat matters in white matter dementia?
Dementia studies has primarily focused on disorders of the cerebral cortex and subcortical gray matter, what originated the concepts of cortical and subcortical dementias respectively. Dementia related mainly with cerebral white matter have received less attention. We present five different cases, each one illustrative of a dementia subtype that could be assigned under the category of 'white ma...
متن کاملWhite-matter hyperintensities in first-episode psychosis
BACKGROUND White-matter hyperintensities have been associated with both schizophrenia and mood disorders, particularly bipolar disorder, but results are inconsistent across studies. AIMS To examine whether white-matter hyperintensities are a vulnerability marker for psychosis or are specifically associated with bipolar disorder. METHOD T(2)-weighted magnetic resonance imaging data were acqu...
متن کاملWhite matter tractography in early psychosis: clinical and neurocognitive associations.
BACKGROUND While many diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) investigations have noted disruptions to white matter integrity in individuals with chronic psychotic disorders, fewer studies have been conducted in young people at the early stages of disease onset. Using whole tract reconstruction techniques, the aim of this study was to identify the white matter pathology associated with the common clinic...
متن کاملAlterations in White Matter Evident Before the Onset of Psychosis
BACKGROUND Psychotic disorders are associated with widespread reductions in white matter (WM) integrity. However, the stage at which these abnormalities first appear and whether they are correlates of psychotic illness, as opposed to an increased vulnerability to psychosis, is unclear. We addressed these issues by using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to study subjects at ultra high risk (UHR) o...
